Design for Reuse
Sustainable Building and Deconstruction
January 28, 2010 8AM-10AM
33 Andrews Parkway, Devens, MA
(Conference Room 1)

This roundtable focused on the emerging trend of designing buildings to be deconstructed or reused. Past roundtables have focused on building longer-lasting buildings and moving away from our current disposable design and build practices. We went a step further and looked at ways people are deconstructing buildings and reusing the materials to construct new buildings (really extending the life-cycle of building materials!). We discussed how to incorporate reuse strategies into new building designs and looked at some sample reclaimed materials and local resources for reuse.

New OSHA Penalty Structures:
What are they and when will they be applied?

February 18, 2011 8AM-10AM (snow date)
33 Andrews Parkway, Devens, MA
(Conference Room 1)

Employee Safety on the job is serious business and Occupational Health and Safety Standards are readily enforced by OSHA. OSHA is implementing several changes to its administrative penalty calculation system. Many of the agency's current penalty adjustment factors have been in place since the early 1970s, resulting in fines that OSHA feels are often too low to have an adequate deterrent effect. Administrative penalty adjustments will be made to several factors. This presentation, led by Ed Bajakian of Safety Associates, will explain the new procedures. The outcome of OSHA's changes to the administrative penalty calculation system will have a significant impact on all employers. Learn what you can do to play it safe!
