EcoStar’s 4th Annual:

Make Every Day Earth Day!

April 22, 2011

Thank you all for your support of and participation in our "Earth Day 2011" activities!

Local Businesses Volunteer to Celebrate Earth Day

Volunteers from Bristol-Myers Squibb, Devens Commons Center, Devens Eco-Efficiency Center, Devens Enterprise Commission, Devens Recycling Center, Safety Associates, and Shriver Job Corps donated a few hours of their time to several community betterment projects on April 22 in celebration of Earth Day.

The Devens Eco-Efficiency Center organized multiple activities that would provide community members with an opportunity to take a break from the daily grind and stresses to appreciate the people and the outdoor environment around them.

Students from the Green Team at Shriver Job Corps tackled the significant amount of trash that has accumulated on a nature trail on Barnum Road.  Thanks to their diligent efforts the area looks much more natural!

The other volunteers partnered with the Devens DPW staff and considerably enhanced the high-visibility areas around Verbeck Gate, Sweetheart Rock, and Sherman Circle. While working at each location a passerby stopped to comment how nice the area looked!

A team from Bristol-Myers Squibb cleared out brush and overgrowth on U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s Goddard Trail, near the Jackson Road entrance to Devens.  Thanks to their hard work this nearly one-mile long trail is now much easier to walk and enjoy.

After their work was done the participants shared how it felt “good to be out in the fresh air” and their sense of accomplishment for the improvements they were responsible for.

We thank them all for their contributions!
