Local Employees Hit the Trails to Celebrate 2014 Earth Day!

The Devens Eco-Efficiency Center and Friends of the Oxbow hosted two events in April and May to help local facilities celebrate Earth Day 2014:

Eighteen employees of eight establishments in Devens hit the Goddard Trail for a fun hike around Mirror Lake. Rona Balco, President of the Friends group, made the walk more interesting by sharing her knowledge of the trail’s namesake, identifying various species of trees and plants, and talking about wildlife observed in the area.

Fifteen members of four local entities were trail blazers led by Friends volunteer John Ugovich. The group made great progress clearing a new hiking trail that begins on Lake George Street by the Jackson Gate and will lead to the Nashua River and Fish and Wildlife’s new Visitors Station on Hospital Road.
